Head Coach: Trent Mongero
Trent Mongero Playing Background: Coach Mongero played college baseball at Florida Southern College 1985 Division II National Champions, his freshmen year. His sophomore year he transferred and played at South Florida Junior College in Avon Park, where he played in the Florida Junior College state Championship and lost to the eventual Junior College National Champions. During his junior and senior years, he played at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, (Wilmington, N.C.) The 1989 Seahawks still hold the best single season winning percentage in CAA (Colonial Athletic Association – Division I) history with a 14 – 1 conference record. That same year the Seahawks finished 31-13 which is the third best UNCW winning percentage since the school went division one. This same year Trent was voted CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Conference `Player of the Year. He was the first athlete, in any sport, in UNCW history to win such a coveted award. He is a current member of the UNC-W All-Decade Team, which represents the best baseball players from 1985 – 1995. Upon graduation, Trent played in the Atlanta Braves Organization and was a rookie the same year as Chipper Jones and Tony Graffanino. He was voted Braves “Most Popular Player” by his fans in Pulaski, Va. In 1985 he became the head coach at Laney High School (9 years) in Wilmington, NC (where Michael Jordan attended H.S.). Later in 2003, he became the head baseball coach at state perennial power Richmond Senior high school, in Rockingham, NC. In the fall of 2006, Trent became the head baseball coach at North Hall. He won his 200th career head high school coaching victory in his first season at NHHS. He is currently authoring three baseball instructional books and accompanying DVDs that will be released nationally by Sterling Publishing and Barnes and Noble in 2010. He is also a current Associate Scout for the Atlanta Braves. Trent is happily married to Sonya Mongero who teaches language arts at NHMS. They have two beautiful children, Taber (11) and Maris (9). They both attend River Bend Elementary School.
